Pre Season 2007-2008

Woodford entertain Westcliff and Wimbledon RFC in what promises to be an exciting build up to the 2007-2008 season.

Essex based club Westcliff currently play in London 3NE and will provide a stern test for the Highams men. Westcliff are well known to Woodford – for the past four seasons Westcliff and Woodford have contested a pre-season friendly with rolling subs played over four quarters, allowing for both coaches to experiment. This will be the format of this season’s game and with both sides in promising positions for 2007-2008, players will be battling it out amongst themselves for a starting place for the new season. Last season saw a 28-28 draw between the two sides.

Woodford have old boy Gareth Price to thank for helping to arrange a fixture against Wimbledon. Gareth has recently played for both first XV’s and was instrumental in arranging last season’s fixture. This was a closely contested battle – the Dons took the spoils in the first half and established a seemingly unassailable lead before Woodford fought back in the second half to make the score look respectable. Wimbledon ply their trade in London 2S – Woodford know how tough a league this is – they were on the receiving end of a thumping by second placed Thanet in the cup last season and will have to be at their best to compete against a very strong side. With this fixture taking place a week before the first league fixture, both sides will be looking to pit their strongest line up against each other.

Woodford RFC would like to extend their thanks to all sides who have agreed to pre-season fixtures.

(Unfortunately the friendly fixture vs Romford scheduled for the 25th August has been cancelled).
